Here's how it works...

Choice... Instructor Led or Self Paced

Live Workshops are Instructor Led and scheduled almost every Wednesday through Friday throughout the winter. e-Workshop is capable of hosting a few dozen Work Stations at a time. Each student or group of students (conference room) will use their computers as a Work Station. Minimum computer skills are needed. Students can review afterward by Logging onto the website and watching what happened in the class.

On-Demand Workshops are Self Paced: Any students wanting to learn at their own pace, are unable to attend during scheduled times or any student wishing to review the class can choose On-Demand. On-Demand records all the Live sessions and makes the recorded sessions available for a predetermined amount of time -- usually 2 weeks. Students may review On-Demand -- previously recorded sessions of their choice -- in part or in their entirety, at any time, nearly anywhere.

Workshop conducts training program online, via website January 14, 2009.

Contractor decides:

  1. how many students to register,
  2. whether they will be trained by either:
    1. Live and On-Demand, or
    2. On-Demand only
  3. when training more than one, whether they will have
    1. separate computers or
    2. share one with a video projector.

Student(s) choose to communicate to instructor/rest of class via:

  1. Audio feed back from their station or
  2. via Chat Room.

The On-Line 'Live' Classes are scheduled Wednesday through Friday, starting at 8:00 am (alternate between Mountain Time and Central Time every other week).

The following scenarios are an example of how Contractors may use the Workshop. The scenarios below depict an array of students and groups webconnected together from across the country in a virtual classroom.

The Contractor CA wanted his people together in one room attending the session and talking among themselves as the class proceeded. They also felt they wanted to be seen so they hooked up a video camera to their computer. Whenever they had a question, they signaled the Host Instructor that they had a comment, question or wanted to answer the question being asked. The Host activates their microphone and camera so everyone else can hear and see the CA Group.

Contractor VA and MA have students with the minimum amount of skills to use the computer, therefore the Contractors wanted them to communicate individually with the instructor/class. Some of them want to talk directly to the Instructor and the others were happy just typing in messages for their answers and questions. The contractor opted to hookup the Video camera because it helps convey the Student's communication to the class and also show off the good looks of the Students.

Contractor IA has five students with little or no computer skills, while four students were skilled. Therefore, one of the skilled students operated the computer and video projector in the company meeting room for the five unskilled students. As the class unfolded, the skilled computer operator taught the five unskilled operators to operate the computer. In the mean time, the remaining three skilled operators were interfacing directly to the instructor/class individually. Of the three skilled operators, one worked at his desk in the plant control tower, one was at a branch office 325 miles away and another in a hotel while traveling. Contractor IA wanted two others to attend as well. One was training elsewhere at the time while the other was on vacation. So one enrolled for the Jan 28-30 'Live' Workshop. The remaining one wanted to sit in on the same class that his peers were in on Jan 14-16 and therefore decided to enroll only for the 2 week On-Demand recording of the Jan 14-16 Workshop when he got back. Since he was a busy person, he found it very convenient to pick and choose the subjects of interest to him. Sometimes he'd have to leave in the middle of a session. When he came back at a day and time of his choosing, he would fast forward to spot he left off at. He also was able to review a report on how much his people participated during the Live Workshop and who went back to review in the On-Demand, for what and for how long.

The Contractor also opted for the Testing Results from the Live sessions and On-Demand sessions so as to measure improvement and retention of his people.

Contractors FL and OH wanted a person to try the workshop out and report to management how this would fit for others in the company. They opted for the testing as well.

Contractors TX is a company that has sent people to the workshop previously. They had a new hire and wanted to bring him up to speed. They opted for the testing as well.

Contractors NC has sent this person before as a new hire while new to this industry. Now that the student has more experience, he is able to understand more of the finer points.
